Tis The Season |

We have reached the end of a long year probably with a lot of problems and personal disappointments. Pushing through the holidays will be hard for most of us with the hopes for a brighter new year. But you need to push forward with faith and positive thoughts. Look for good news, new opportunities, ways to help & support the people around you and always use the slow times to make new friends. The papers for the past three years have printed doom and gloom. Yes the values have dropped, with some of us seeing our home worth 30% of what the peak in 2005 had the value at. Remember the newspapers will print what they believe sells papers. Most people buy a paper to read the bad news instead of looking for good news. Good News; Foreclosure filings dropped by 8% since last month and the fourth straight monthly decline. Nationwide. First time home buyer program was extended. The number of people filing first time claims for jobless aid fell by 35,000 in November. New homes sales hit the highest point in the last year. With over 100 new home permits pulled in Brevard for October. New homes rose 6.2% Nationwide. Consumer spending rose .7% in October some credit given to the cash for clunkers. The stock market seems to have stabilized depending on the market. We are all looking back at better days and looking for blame, but this is all history and we need to look forward with a positive attitude. Real Estate in Brevard for most areas seems to have reached the bottom depending on the area. There will still be some ups and downs in values and the steady increase in values may be a year or more in the future. ‘Instant Society’; The ‘Instant Society’ is what we have become over the last fifty years. Microwave’s to give us instant meals, a car for each driver so we can get anywhere, a flat TV with almost 1000 channels, a cell phone that can do almost anything and a computer with the instant access for all information (Does anyone know what the dewy decimal system is?). We entertain and educate our kids by putting them in front of a TV (also known as a cheap babysitter). Most improvements are good and raise the quality of life, I don’t question this. But most people I talk with think the economy is an instant fix (it took several years to put us in this hole) but it’s not and a lot of politics get in the way. I do want to note here that the economic situation is worse than it was in 1929 (before my time). To rebuild the economy after the elections in 1930 (remember your history) it took 16 years of struggle by our grandparents and World War II. I sure hope that we feel improvement over the next year. The paper being positive and reporting good news will spark spending and this will cause the economy to start moving. I ask you look to improve your position or job without stepping on your neighbor and look to avoid all the scams out there today. Have a Merry Christmas And a better New Year. Thomas Hayes
